Most international flights land at Dushanbe International Airport, some also serve Khujand in the north, and overland travellers often enter from Uzbekistan or Kyrgyzstan. Install a HelloSIM eSIM before the trip and your phone joins a Tajik network as soon as you are in the country.
Why use an eSIM in Tajikistan
- Arrange a ride from the airport or message your Dushanbe guesthouse without first tracking down a mobile shop.
- Translate menus, signs and conversations on the spot — Tajik and Russian are both written in Cyrillic, which many visitors cannot read.
- Line up drivers, shared taxis and homestays for a Pamir Highway road trip while you still have signal in town.
- Roaming on a home plan in Central Asia often comes with a steep daily charge or limited packages — check your tariff before you set off.
- Your own SIM keeps working for calls and texts, WhatsApp stays on your usual number, and the plan's days only start once it connects in Tajikistan.
Tajikistan is overwhelmingly mountainous, and many trips pair a few days in Dushanbe with long drives into the Fann Mountains or along the Pamir Highway. With data while you are in range, you can confirm the next homestay, check the road ahead and share your route before the signal disappears.

Networks and coverage
The HelloSIM eSIM for Tajikistan works with two local networks: Tcell on 4G, and ZET-Mobile, which gives you 5G where it offers 5G and your phone supports it, and 4G everywhere else.
Coverage is generally reliable in Dushanbe and the surrounding valley, in Khujand and the other northern towns, and in Khorog, the main town of the Pamirs. Larger roadside settlements usually have some signal too.
Outside the towns it thins out quickly. Expect long stretches with no signal at all on the Pamir Highway, especially across the high plateau of the eastern Pamirs, as well as on trekking routes in the Fann Mountains and in remote side valleys such as the Bartang.
How to get connected
- 1Confirm your phone is eSIM-capable and not locked to a carrier, then buy the Tajikistan plan — the QR code is emailed to you straight away and also appears in your HelloSIM account and app.
- 2Scan it at home over Wi-Fi before you leave: Settings → Mobile → Add eSIM on an iPhone, or Settings → Network & internet / Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM on most Android phones.
- 3Once you land in Dushanbe or cross the border, switch the HelloSIM line on, make it your mobile data line and enable Data Roaming on it; the eSIM needs this to connect, and it costs nothing extra because the data is prepaid.
- 4Disable data roaming on your home SIM so it cannot run up charges with your own provider.
How much data do you need
- Light — messaging, maps and the odd translation: about 1 GB a week.
- Medium — mountain photos, social media and browsing: 3–5 GB a week.
- Heavy — video calls, uploading clips or working online: 10 GB or more a week.
Hotels and cafés in Dushanbe commonly have Wi-Fi, but in Pamir homestays it is often slow or unavailable, so do any big downloads before you leave the capital.

Travel tips for staying connected in Tajikistan
- Before heading for the Pamirs, download offline maps of the whole route and save every homestay contact, as you can drive for hours between signals.
- Add an offline Russian language pack to your translation app so it still works on the high passes.
- Share your plans for the next few days with family while you have coverage in Khorog or another town; messages may only go through once you reach the next settlement with signal.
- Carry a power bank, because homestays in remote valleys may have limited electricity and you will lean on your phone for photos and navigation.
- Run low on data mid-trip? Top up the same eSIM in the HelloSIM app the next time you are in range, with no new QR code to scan.
