Flights to Trinidad arrive at Piarco International Airport, east of Port of Spain, and Tobago has its own A.N.R. Robinson International Airport near Crown Point. If you install a HelloSIM eSIM before you travel, it links up with the local network once you land on either island.
Why use an eSIM in Trinidad and Tobago
- During Carnival your phone holds fete tickets, band meeting points and your best chance of finding friends in the crowd.
- Getting across to Tobago on the domestic flight or the inter-island ferry is easier with boarding passes, sailing times and confirmations to hand.
- Roaming on your usual plan often comes with a daily charge or costly bundles; check your tariff before you leave.
- Your home SIM keeps your number for calls and texts, and WhatsApp continues unchanged.
- The days on your plan begin only when the eSIM first connects in Trinidad and Tobago.
The two islands feel very different. Trinidad is busy, with Port of Spain, San Fernando and a full calendar of fetes and festivals, while Tobago is quieter, with beaches, reefs and rainforest. Many trips combine both, and the same eSIM works on each.

Networks and coverage
HelloSIM's Trinidad and Tobago eSIM uses Digicel on its 4G network. You will be on 4G/LTE throughout, as 5G is not part of this plan.
Coverage is usually strong across Port of Spain, including the Queen's Park Savannah at the heart of Carnival, as well as in Chaguanas, San Fernando and along the main highways. On Tobago, Crown Point, Scarborough and the beaches of the south-west are generally well covered.
Signal can be patchy in the hills of the Northern Range, on the coast road beyond Maracas Bay, and in quieter rural parts of southern and eastern Trinidad. On Tobago, expect gaps in the Main Ridge Forest Reserve and around the north-east tip near Charlotteville. On packed Carnival days the networks can also get busy, so keep messages short and simple.
How to get connected
- 1Make sure your phone works with eSIM and is unlocked, then order the Trinidad and Tobago plan. The QR code comes by email straight away and also sits in your HelloSIM account and app.
- 2Before you fly, connect to Wi-Fi at home and install it: iPhone users open Settings → Mobile → Add eSIM, while Android users look under Settings → Network & internet or Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM.
- 3When you land at Piarco or on Tobago, turn the HelloSIM line on, set it as your data line and activate Data Roaming on it. The eSIM cannot connect without it, and there is no extra charge because the data is prepaid.
- 4Make sure data roaming is off on your home line, otherwise your usual provider may bill you for data used abroad.
How much data do you need
- Light — WhatsApp, maps and ride details: about 1 GB a week.
- Medium — posting Carnival photos, social media and everyday browsing: 3–5 GB a week.
- Heavy — uploading lots of video, video calls or working online: 10 GB or more a week.
Hotels and guesthouses usually have Wi-Fi, but during Carnival and on beach days you will be away from it for hours, so mobile data does the heavy lifting.

Travel tips for staying connected in Trinidad and Tobago
- For J'ouvert and the parade days, keep your phone in a waterproof pouch, as paint, mud and powder get everywhere, and agree a fallback meeting point in case messages are slow.
- Travelling to Tobago by ferry? Save your ticket and sailing time offline, because the signal can come and go during the crossing.
- Planning a drive along the North Coast Road to Maracas Bay or a hike in Tobago's rainforest? Download offline maps first.
- Arriving on a cruise ship into Port of Spain or Scarborough? While at sea your phone can connect to the ship's maritime network, which your home carrier bills separately, so keep roaming off on your own line until you are in port.
