Kuwait's climate in a nutshell
Kuwait has one of the hottest climates on Earth. Summers are brutal and winters are mild, so your visit lives or dies by the calendar. There are really only two meaningful seasons: a long, scorching summer and a short, pleasant cool season.
The best months: November to March
The sweet spot for visiting Kuwait is November through March. Daytime temperatures sit around 18 to 25 degrees Celsius, evenings are cool, and humidity drops. This is when you can comfortably walk the Corniche, explore Souq Al-Mubarakiya, and sit outside at the cafes lining the Arabian Gulf Street.
- December and January are the coolest, occasionally dipping near 8 degrees at night.
- Rain is rare but most likely between November and February.
- Pack a light jacket for evenings, especially near the water.
Shoulder season: October and April
October and April are transitional. The worst heat has broken or not yet arrived, prices for hotels can be softer, and major attractions are quieter. April can still surprise you with hot afternoons, so plan indoor activities like The Avenues mall or the Sheikh Abdullah Al-Salem Cultural Centre for midday.
When to avoid: June to September
Summer in Kuwait is extreme. Temperatures regularly exceed 45 degrees Celsius, and have topped 50. The dusty *toz* sandstorms peak in early summer, and the *simoom* hot winds make outdoor time genuinely unsafe in the afternoon. Locals retreat indoors, and life shifts to air-conditioned malls. Only come in summer if business requires it.
Festivals and events by month
- February: Kuwait National Day (25th) and Liberation Day (26th). The city erupts in flags, fireworks, foam-spraying convoys, and parades down Gulf Road. This is the most festive, energetic time to visit.
- Ramadan (dates shift yearly). Daytime is quiet and many cafes close until sunset, but nights come alive with *ghabga* gatherings and special menus. Hala Febru013 cultural and shopping festival often overlaps the cool season.
- Hala February Festival. A month-long celebration of shopping, concerts, and family events across the city.
- Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Festive, but expect closures and busy malls.
