Fiji eSIM: Mobile Data for Nadi, Suva and the Islands

Get mobile data across Fiji with a HelloSIM eSIM on Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji 4G. Install before you fly, connect at Nadi and keep your WhatsApp number.

Fiji is made up of more than 300 islands, but almost every holiday begins at Nadi International Airport on Viti Levu, the largest island, with Nausori Airport near Suva handling some regional flights. From Nadi it is a short drive to Port Denarau and the boats to the Mamanuca and Yasawa groups. With a HelloSIM eSIM, you can confirm your transfer and message your resort as soon as you clear arrivals.

Why use an eSIM in Fiji

  • Connected on landing: after a long-haul flight, you can check transfer details and tell family you have arrived without hunting for a SIM counter.
  • A backup for resort Wi-Fi: on smaller islands, guest Wi-Fi is often shared by everyone and can be slow.
  • Keep your number: your home SIM stays in the phone, and WhatsApp carries on with your usual number.
  • Skip pricey roaming: roaming in the South Pacific is often expensive on home plans — check your current tariff before you rely on it.
  • Add data any time: top up the same eSIM from your account or the HelloSIM app if the holiday runs longer.

HelloSIM eSIMs are data-only, so calls and messages go through apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime or Viber. The QR code is delivered by email straight away, and your plan only starts running when the eSIM first connects to a network in Fiji.

Networks and coverage

In Fiji, HelloSIM uses Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji, both on 4G. Coverage is strongest in Nadi, Denarau, Lautoka and Suva, along the Coral Coast between Sigatoka and Pacific Harbour, and in the main towns of Vanua Levu such as Labasa and Savusavu. Many Mamanuca resorts close to Viti Levu also pick up a usable signal.

Further out, it becomes patchier. Expect weaker coverage the further north you travel in the Yasawa chain, in the mountainous interior of Viti Levu, on Kadavu and in the remote Lau Group. On boat transfers between islands, signal can drop completely for part of the crossing.

How to get connected

  1. 1After paying, open the email with your QR code; it is also kept in your HelloSIM account and app.
  2. 2Install the eSIM at home over Wi-Fi: on iPhone go to Settings → Mobile/Cellular → Add eSIM; on Android use Settings → Network & internet or Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM.
  3. 3When you land at Nadi, turn on the HelloSIM line, select it for mobile data and enable Data Roaming for it — no extra cost, as the data is prepaid.
  4. 4Turn data roaming off on your home line so it does not pick up charges from your usual carrier.

How much data do you need

  • Light (about 1 GB a week): maps, messaging, ferry times and resort bookings.
  • Medium (3–5 GB a week): sharing beach and reef photos, social media and browsing.
  • Heavy (10 GB or more): video calls home, streaming in the evening or remote work.

Most hotels and resorts offer Wi-Fi, but on outer islands it can be limited, so having your own data makes a real difference.

Good to know

  • Currency: Fijian dollar (FJD)
  • Capital: Suva, on Viti Levu
  • Languages: English, iTaukei (Fijian) and Fiji Hindi
  • Time zone: UTC+12
  • Plug type: I (Australian style, with angled flat pins)
  • Don't miss: the Mamanuca and Yasawa islands, the Garden of the Sleeping Giant near Nadi, the Sigatoka Sand Dunes and the colourful Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple

Travel tips for staying connected in Fiji

  • Download offline maps of Viti Levu and save ferry tickets and resort details to your phone before leaving Port Denarau.
  • On remote resort islands, let family know you may be offline for stretches, and use quiet moments near the main building, where signal is often better.
  • Joining a small-ship cruise through the Yasawas? At sea, your phone may connect to the ship's maritime network, which is billed separately and can be costly, so keep flight mode on until you are back in range of land.
  • Boat transfers and snorkelling trips are wet affairs, so pack a waterproof pouch for your phone.

Frequently asked questions

Does an eSIM work in Fiji?
Yes. As long as your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked, a HelloSIM Fiji eSIM connects to local 4G networks after you land.
Which networks does the Fiji eSIM use?
HelloSIM uses Vodafone Fiji and Digicel Fiji, both on 4G.
How much data do I need for a week in Fiji?
About 1 GB covers maps and messaging, and 3–5 GB suits regular photo sharing and social media. If you plan video calls or streaming, choose 10 GB or more.
When should I install my Fiji eSIM?
Install it at home on Wi-Fi before your flight to Nadi. The plan does not start until the eSIM first connects to a network in Fiji, so early installation costs you nothing.
Can I still use WhatsApp with my own number in Fiji?
Yes. The eSIM provides data only, so your regular SIM keeps your number for calls and texts, and WhatsApp stays on that number.
Is there coverage on the outer islands?
Resorts in the Mamanuca group near Viti Levu often have usable signal. Coverage gets patchier further north in the Yasawas, on Kadavu, in the Lau Group and at sea between islands.
