Most visitors fly into Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau, on New Providence, or into Grand Bahama International Airport near Freeport, while cruise ships dock right in downtown Nassau. Install a HelloSIM eSIM before you travel and your phone connects to the local network once you arrive.
Why use an eSIM in the Bahamas
- Message your hotel, check ferry or flight times and find your way from the airport without hunting for a SIM shop.
- Island hopping to the Exumas, Eleuthera or Abaco is easier with bookings, boarding passes and maps on your phone.
- Roaming on your home plan often means a daily charge or pricey data bundles — check your current tariff before you leave.
- Your own SIM stays in the phone, so your number keeps working for calls and texts and WhatsApp is unchanged.
- The plan's days only start counting when the eSIM first connects in the Bahamas.
The Bahamas is a scattering of around 700 islands and cays, and many trips combine Nassau or Paradise Island with a few days on one of the quieter Family Islands. Your own data line keeps the logistics — boats, small planes, golf carts and guesthouse check-ins — in your pocket.

Networks and coverage
HelloSIM's Bahamas eSIM runs on BTC, on its 4G network. That means you will be on 4G/LTE throughout, rather than 5G.
Coverage is good across New Providence, including downtown Nassau, Cable Beach and Paradise Island, and around Freeport and Lucaya on Grand Bahama. The main settlements on the larger Family Islands, such as George Town in Exuma and Marsh Harbour on Abaco, usually have signal too.
Expect gaps between settlements on the long, thin islands, on small and uninhabited cays, and out on the water. Boat days through the Exuma Cays in particular can mean long spells with little or no signal.
How to get connected
- 1Check that your phone supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked, then buy the Bahamas plan. The QR code is sent by email straight away and saved in your HelloSIM account.
- 2Install it before you travel while you are on Wi-Fi: iPhone users go to Settings → Mobile → Add eSIM; on Android, it is usually Settings → Network & internet or Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM.
- 3On arrival, switch the HelloSIM line on, select it for mobile data and turn on Data Roaming for that line. It is needed for the eSIM to connect and costs nothing extra, as the data is prepaid.
- 4Turn data roaming off on your home line so your own carrier cannot charge you.
How much data do you need
- Light — WhatsApp, maps and checking boat schedules: about 1 GB a week.
- Medium — sharing beach photos, social media and browsing: 3–5 GB a week.
- Heavy — video calls, streaming or working remotely: 10 GB or more a week.
Resorts in Nassau and on Paradise Island generally have Wi-Fi, but it can be limited at smaller guesthouses on the Out Islands, so plan your data with that in mind.
Good to know

Travel tips for staying connected in the Bahamas
- Before a boat tour through the Exuma Cays, download offline maps and save your tour meeting point, as signal can come and go between the islands.
- Flying between islands on small planes or taking the fast ferry from Nassau to Eleuthera or Harbour Island? Keep tickets and confirmations saved offline.
- On a cruise, your phone can latch onto the ship's maritime network at sea, which home carriers may bill at high rates. Keep data roaming off on your home line until you are in port.
- If you plan to make lots of video calls from an Out Island, consider a larger plan, or top up the same eSIM from the HelloSIM app when you need more.
