Malta's climate in a nutshell
Malta enjoys a classic Mediterranean climate: hot, dry summers and mild, damp winters. The sun shines for around 300 days a year, the sea stays swimmable from June into November, and snow simply never happens. Because the islands are tiny, the weather is remarkably consistent from Valletta to Gozo.
Summer (June to August): peak season
This is Malta at its busiest and hottest. Daytime temperatures sit around 30 to 35 Celsius, sometimes higher when the African scirocco wind blows. The sea is gloriously warm, beaches like Golden Bay and Mellieha fill up, and Sliema and St Julian's buzz late into the night.

August brings the spectacular Santa Marija feast (15 August) with fireworks across multiple villages, and the long-running Malta International Arts Festival.
Spring (March to May): the sweet spot
Many travellers consider spring the best time of all. Temperatures are a comfortable 18 to 25 Celsius, the countryside is green and covered in wildflowers, and crowds are thin. It is ideal for hiking the Dingli Cliffs, exploring Mdina, and island-hopping to Gozo and Comino's Blue Lagoon before the summer rush.
Holy Week and Easter processions are a cultural highlight, and the Fireworks Festival lights up the Grand Harbour in late April.
Autumn (September to November): warm and quieter
September still feels like summer with sea temperatures around 25 Celsius, but prices and crowds ease. Notte Bianca in Valletta turns the capital into an open-air festival of art and music. By November the first rains arrive, though days remain mild.
Winter (December to February): mild and cheap
Winter is the cheapest time to visit. Daytime highs of 15 to 17 Celsius suit sightseeing, the Valletta Baroque Festival runs in January, and Christmas brings cribs and street lights to every village. Pack a light jacket and expect occasional rain.
